An ode to Kerala backwaters

Lagoon Bay is a luxury 5 star hotel in Hyderabad, which offers comfort and convenience whether you're on business or holiday. They have the rustic surroundings, bright ethnic interiors and all the modern amenities to give you comfort and luxury, a true ode to the backwaters.

Before the complete rebrand of all the properties at Leonia, all of them had the prefix “Leo”. And this particular hotel was called Leo Lagoon Villas.

We were asked to come onboard to help Lagoon Villas achieve a stand alone brand positioning.

The logo logic

When we started thinking about the ideology's for the logo, we wanted it to be extremely recognisable and relatable. The identity centres on the usage of unique chettinad tiles throughout the property and the layout of the actual estate.

The Garden

Verdant greens. Framed by lush wooded tracts. The perfect setting to watch the sky and the  lagoon meet like old lovers.

The Hallway

Modern amenities. A private  patio. The aesthetic of Old Portugal.

The luxuries of a bygone era. The ways of a new age.

For once, you won’t have to decide between the two.

The Bay Pool

You might feel a sense of déjà vu because you couldn’t possibly be at the shores of Kerala’s backwaters on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The Rooms

You belong here at the intersection between nature and civilization.

A display design system

Though our logo had complex 8 bit style construction, we wanted the design system to be heavily influenced by the simplicity of tiles layout.

The designers drew out the actual pattern from those tiles. The Daffodil from the pool, the bowties containing the green square from the lobby & hallways, plus the three strips containing black squares from the room flooring became our basic tools of building this language.

We combined these patterns in a way that it  forms a 'L' and a 'B' from the word Lagoon Bay.

The eye catchy identity of Lagoon Bay is juxtaposed with bright, vibrant colours to give the contemporary feel to it. The colour-scape has been picked up from the colours of the tiles in and around Lagoon Bay.

For cases where the logo can be used in its full glory, a monogram has been devised with a capital L holding relatively smaller capital B(which reflects green areas of the property). The L&B together spell out the new name which was given to the property Lagoon Bay and also show the actual layout of the estate.

The Kerala Connect

Kerala aka God’s own country is a state on India's tropical Malabar Coast, that has nearly 600km of Arabian Sea shoreline. It's known for its palm-lined beaches and backwaters, a network of canals. The 99m long pool and the usage of chettinad tiles in the property worked wonders to bring the true essence of this boutique property out.

We used very simple and approachable typefaces from superfamily Gotham - Gotham Rounded regular, medium & black. The curved terminals of Gotham rounded supplemented the hard edged tiled language we had created.

The imagery is primarily based on the L&B monogram masked on top of the estate photos with the minimal messaging and secondary logo.

The patterns are derived from the very same tiles we used in the logo. This iconic pattern is the basis of our design system for this brief.
